John Denver became a star with the folk-based songs he composed, the majority of which were located in Colorado. Take Me Home Country Roads is the only Denver Top 10 Hit as a solo artist after having worked with small folk groups. The song was written in collaboration with Bill Danoff. Danoff used Johnny Cash as the inspiration for the song, but Denver realized that it could turn into a hit once he heard an earlier version.
